Used Ambulettes for Sale – Wheelchair NEMT Vans & Buses

Best Buses For Sale is a family-run dealer in Huntington, NY, and our family has been in transportation since 1898. We sell reconditioned wheelchair ambulettes and NEMT buses to Medicaid transportation providers, paratransit operators, adult day programs, senior communities and churches across the country, and deliver them on our own flatbeds.

Why Buy Your Ambulette From Us

  • Rust-free from the start. We buy our buses from outside the Salt Belt, so frames, brake lines and floors start clean.
  • Driven and fixed before sale. Manny drives every bus and fixes what he finds, including the expensive repairs other dealers skip.
  • See it before you buy. Every listing has a walkaround video and a floor plan, and Manny will do a live FaceTime walkaround.
  • Delivered on our own flatbeds. No highway miles are added on the way to your base.

What to Check Before You Buy an Ambulette

  • Your state and broker rules: NEMT licensing, vehicle inspections and Medicaid broker requirements are set state by state. Confirm them with your state DOT, DMV and Medicaid broker before you buy. See our State Buyer’s Guide.
  • Lift and securements: check the lift capacity, wheelchair positions and the floor track and belt system for the chairs your riders use.
  • Driver license: under federal rules a vehicle designed for 16 or more people including the driver needs a CDL. Most ambulettes are smaller, but some states add their own rules for for-hire medical transport.
  • Rust and records: we buy outside the salt belt and share photos, videos and a live FaceTime walkaround of the frame, floor and lift.

Ambulette Buyer FAQ

What Is an Ambulette?

A wheelchair-accessible van or small bus for non-emergency medical trips, such as dialysis, doctor visits and adult day programs. It carries riders who use wheelchairs but don’t need a stretcher or medical care on the way.

Do I Need a CDL to Drive an Ambulette?

Usually not. Federal rules require a CDL for vehicles designed to carry 16 or more people including the driver, and most ambulettes carry far fewer. Some states require extra licensing or driver checks for for-hire medical transport, so confirm with your state DMV.

Can You Find a Specific Ambulette or a Matched Fleet?

Yes. We buy nationwide and can source matching units for fleet orders.

How Much Does a Used Ambulette Cost?

As of November 2026, our wheelchair units run from about $22,000 to $60,000, depending on year, size and number of wheelchair positions.
