Best Buses For Sale is a family-run dealer in Huntington, Long Island, and our family has been in New York transportation since 1898. We sell reconditioned wheelchair ambulettes and NEMT buses to New York Medicaid transportation providers, New York City paratransit operators, adult day programs and senior communities.

Why Buy Your Ambulette From Us

  • Rust-free from the start. New York scores 9.4 out of 10 on our road-salt rust scale. We buy our buses from outside the Salt Belt, so frames, brake lines and floors start clean.
  • Driven and fixed before sale. Manny drives every bus and fixes what he finds, including the expensive repairs other dealers skip.
  • See it before you buy. Every listing has a walkaround video and a floor plan, and Manny will do a live FaceTime walkaround.
  • Delivered on our own flatbeds. No highway miles are added on the way to your base.

What New York Ambulette Operators Need

  • Vehicle equipment: 17 NYCRR 720.8 requires a 600-lb lift with a door interlock and manual lowering, 4 floor anchorages plus a lap and shoulder belt for each wheelchair position.
  • Inspections: a NYSDOT inspection before DMV registers the vehicle as a passenger carrier, then at least every 6 months.
  • Medicaid enrollment: ambulette providers enrolling in eMedNY need an NYSDOT operating license for transit-disabled service and a DMV Article 19-A compliance letter dated on or after the most recent July 1.
  • Westchester and Nassau: a Paratransit Base License from that county’s Taxi & Limousine Commission. A New York City TLC Paratransit Base License can stand in for Nassau’s.
  • New York City: a TLC paratransit vehicle license needs base affiliation, a recent NYSDOT inspection report (MC300), a TLC inspection and for-hire insurance. It costs $550 for two years.

Ambulette Buyer FAQ

What Is an Ambulette?

A wheelchair-accessible van or small bus for non-emergency medical trips, such as dialysis, doctor visits and adult day programs. It carries riders who use wheelchairs but don’t need a stretcher or medical care on the way.

Do I Need a CDL to Drive an Ambulette in New York?

Most ambulettes carry fewer than 15 passengers, so a Class E covers for-hire use. Fifteen or more passengers, or service under Article 19-A, needs a Class C CDL plus 19-A driver qualification.

Can You Find a Specific Ambulette or a Matched Fleet?

Yes. We buy nationwide and can source matching units for fleet orders.

How Much Does a Used Ambulette Cost?

As of November 2026, our wheelchair units run from about $22,000 to $60,000, depending on year, size and number of wheelchair positions.
