Used Shuttle Buses for Sale in New York
Best Buses For Sale is a family-run dealer in Huntington, Long Island, and our family has been in New York transportation since 1898. We sell reconditioned non-CDL, wheelchair and church shuttle buses to New York buyers, from New York City ambulette and paratransit operators to upstate churches, camps and senior communities, and we deliver anywhere in the state.
Why a Rust-Free Bus Matters in New York
New York scores 9.4 out of 10 on our road-salt rust scale, one of the harshest in the country. Upstate has one of the longest, heaviest salt seasons in the U.S., and New York City and Long Island add coastal salt air. We buy our buses from outside the Salt Belt, so you start with a clean frame, brake lines and floor.
What New York Buyers Need to Know
- Licenses: a Class D license covers private use of a vehicle carrying fewer than 15 passengers. For-hire use with 14 or fewer passengers needs a Class E. Fifteen or more passengers, or any bus run under Article 19-A (more than 10 passengers for schools, day cares, camps, religious instruction, for-hire carriers or public agencies), needs a Class C CDL plus 19-A driver qualification.
- Ambulettes: 17 NYCRR 720.8 requires a 600-lb lift with door interlock and manual lowering, 4 floor anchorages plus a lap and shoulder belt per position, and a NYSDOT inspection at least every 6 months. Medicaid providers enroll in eMedNY and get trips through Medical Answering Services.
- Registration: passenger carriers must pass a NYSDOT inspection before DMV registers the bus, then every 6 months. Paid service needs NYSDOT authority.
- Sales tax: 4% state plus local tax (about 7% to 8.875% total) based on where you live, paid at the DMV. Exempt organizations with Form ST-119.1 and government buyers are exempt.
- Grants: FTA 5310 senior and disability bus grants run through NYSDOT (the NYC area through NYMTC).
