- Late 1800s
Casamassima ICE Is Born
Matteo Casamassima leaves Bari, Italy for New York City and builds Casamassima ICE, delivering to the city’s bars, restaurants, hotels, bakeries, butcher shops, and markets.
- Building Smarter
Horses to Hoppers to Trucks
The first ice wagons were pulled by retired draft and police horses. The family later designed ice cube hoppers built right into the trucks, and Manny Casamassima moved the company from wagons to customized war surplus trucks.
- After the War
Westbury Transport
Manny founded Westbury Transport to deliver furniture to returning GIs and their families. His custom delivery bodies were so well designed that many of his ideas were adopted across the industry.
- Third Generation
A 100 Truck Operation
After years at UPS, Matthew Casamassima grew Westbury Transport into a multi state logistics operation with more than 100 trucks, serving the original World Trade Center, Roosevelt Field Mall, and Macy’s Herald Square.

NuWest Logistics
Manny Casamassima Jr. joined as the fourth generation, bringing a background in finance and operations. The company added yard management and refrigerated delivery and became NuWest Logistics.
